Ciao, Summer Families!
Our Roman adventure kicked off on the first day with a walking tour through some of the city’s most iconic landmarks. We began at the elegant Piazza Navona, then made our way to the Pantheon, a marvel of engineering. From there we visited the Trevi Fountain and climbed the famous Spanish Steps, navigated the stylish stretch of Via del Corso, and engaged in the street life that defines Rome.
The afternoon brought us back to our temporary home at the Antico Palazzo Rospigliosi for classes, where students continued their coursework. We also discovered several hidden and tucked away common areas, including the salon, library, and chapel. We then headed for dinner to a local ristorante for yet another amazing meal in Italy.
Our second day began with a journey through time as we visited the Colosseum, standing where gladiators once fought for glory. This is but the first introduction in our introduction to ancient sport and entertainment as we have more lessons upcoming tomorrow. We ended the morning with a walk through the Roman Forum among the ruins, arches, and columns.
We returned for more class time in the afternoon, but the real spotlight belonged to the grade 12 English class. Students took the stage in the Salon of our Palazzo, presenting their Shakespearean scenes from Julius Caesar with passion, elegance, and dramatic flair. To say they rose to the occasion would be an understatement — and this is coming from a former arts critic!
The dinners from Florence to Rome have been nothing short of delicious. From fresh pasta and curated dishes to dessert that often rivals art, every meal has been fantastic. Photography class has also been off through the many streets of Italy as we chase traffic for the optimal shot, from cars to Vespas, and everything moving in-between.
Tomorrow brings morning classes before heading off to Gladiator School, an experience sure to bring the Roman Empire to life. Thursday will be our final full day of classes in Italy, and then it's off to the next chapter of our upcoming journey in Greece.
Until next time,
Nicholas
