Japan 2025: teamLab Planets and Tokyo Disney

Hello from Tokyo!
The last two days have been nothing short of incredible. teamLab Planets is billed as a “modern art museum” and turned out to be even more amazing than we could have imagined. We really did “walk through water” and “immerse ourselves in the art”. The students and staff agree that this is among the best activities of this trip so far.
Disneyland Tokyo was our next excursion. While the reviews were a little more mixed, it was still a wonderful opportunity to see North American culture interpreted in Japan. Those of us who stayed until the light show at the end were especially dazzled. I saw the Disney fireworks and light show at Epcot in Florida many years ago and, until now, it remained my favourite show. After last night, the Disneyland Tokyo show rivals the Epcot show for me. The theme “Reach for the Stars” is one we all need to embrace.
Today was a work day for the students. Good progress is being made on the various courses. I continue to be really impressed with the work that these young people are doing in the midst of a heavy travel schedule.
Tomorrow is a free day to finish work an explore (for those who are caught up) and then our travel schedule picks up again. We will be visiting Asakusa Temple and enjoying a Samurai Sword experience, enjoying a farm experience and then Shinjuku and a dance show on our final three days. These are all half day experiences so the students will have time to complete their culminating projects. “Diary of a Tokyo Teen” written by an 18 year old Japanese-American girl on her travels to Japan should resonate with the students after all of our travels!
