Kimonos, Samurai and a traditional Tea Ceremony were the highlight of our last day in Kyoto. The ladies looked beautiful and the men looked fierce. We all learned how to make traditional matcha tea.
Following the ceremony, the students enjoyed free time in the afternoon to explore the Gion district at Kyoto. Shopping, the ubiquitous food street, vending machines and the Round 1 arcade were available as well as traditional Japanese wooden homes on tiny streets.
Dinner took us to Japanese fine dining. Who knew there were that many ways to serve tofu? But seriously the many tiny plates were an opportunity to explore various tofu, vegetable and chicken dishes. It was a truly lovely meal especially for the more adventurous among us.
Our final day in Kyoto was a real juxtaposition of the modern and the ancient!
Now it’s on to Tokyo on the Shinkansen bullet train. This train is a marvel of engineering and makes long distance travel so much faster and easier.
We can’t wait to begin our explorations of Tokyo!
