Our Island Adventure Begins!

We have arrived in Paros, and it feels like we’ve stepped into a postcard. The pace has slowed, the cool breeze of the Aegean is in the air, and it’s safe to say that “island time” is now in full effect.

Before we set sail for the islands, we had a great day learning about the classical world of Ancient Greece. Our morning was spent exploring the Acropolis, where students stood among the grandeur of the Parthenon and the panoramic views of Athens below.

Our guide brought the stories of gods, goddesses, and philosophers to life, allowing us to appreciate how this iconic site has shaped Western history. After a few hours under the summer sun, we headed to the Acropolis Museum. Following our tour, we had some free time for lunch in the Plaka district, with many students trying souvlaki, fresh Greek salads, or grabbing freddo espresso to cool off.

On Sunday, we boarded the ferry from Athens as we watched the skyline fade into the horizon and the turquoise waters stretch out around us. The ferry ride was smooth and scenic, giving students plenty of time to relax, take photos, or simply enjoy the sea breeze.

Arriving in Paros felt like entering a different world with whitewashed buildings and a serene coastal charm that immediately was the highlight of everything we have been expecting. We checked into the lovely Galatia Hotel, which will be our home base for the next few days. After settling in, we headed straight for the beach. The group spent the afternoon swimming and sunbathing which has been long awaited.

After dinner, students were given the option to sign out and explore the nearby town of Aliki. Some students enjoyed wandering the narrow streets, discovering local shops and cafés, while others opted for a slower evening, staying behind at the hotel. Some played cards on the terrace, others relaxed by the beach as the sun set, painting the sky in shades of orange and pink.

Today brings more adventure as we set out for a day trip to Antiparos. We’ll enjoy more time in the water, relax on sandy beaches, and do a bit of shopping. Everyone is doing well, spirits are high, and Paros is already becoming one of the highlights of our journey.

Yours among the Cycladic Islands,
Nicholas
